GR: "Popp'd in between" and a question about elective kings   Written by Laraine (5/25/2003 7:22 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Kingship in Scandinavia, penned by Sari2
Are you new?

I think that Claudius managed to see to it he was elected King immediately after King Hamlet died. If he worked his persuasive powers right away, before Hamlet was there to make his own claim, he'd "pop" in between the election and [Hamlet's] hopes" -- which worked beautifully!

Sari--do you (or anyone else) know if everyone voted in such an election, or if was only people of the court, or people who could read, or some other criterion?
