GR: Polonius Sybil   Written by Cheryl (5/19/2003 12:57 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: Polonius and his children, penned by Laraine
Are you new?

] Just what Polonius thinks or feels in not at all clear to me.

Yeah, he is just all over the place isn't he? A caring father who sets spies on one child and makes public the other's love letters. A pompous fool and cunning politician. A toady and a spindoctor. I wonder if Shakespeare knew just what exactly he wanted to do with the character?

What do you make of Polonius' previous acting experience? "I did enact Julius Caesar: I was killed i' the Capitol; Brutus killed me."

Again, why does he go on about Brutus killing Caesar, as if this is news, as if Hamlet didn't know who Caesar and Brutus were or that he had to explain every little thing to the madman so as to not rile him. I'm sure Hamlet was wishing he could have killed him i' the Capital. Or in Elsinore. Oh wait. He did! :o)
