GR Setting Ophelia up   Written by Deborah Julia (5/18/2003 11:37 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: Set up by whom?, penned by Christine T.
Are you new?

] ] I think Ophelia was being set up to marry Hamlet (poor girl).

] I'm curious. Who do you think was setting Ophelia up to marry Hamlet? Polonius and Laertes warned her about him. Or do you think they were playing some kind of psychological game to drive her closer to Hamlet?

I'm not sure I can explain why I think Ophelia is being set up, but it is what I have always thought. Although Polonius and Laertes do warn her about Hamlet, I get the feeling they are trying to put the idea of marriage into her head. I can't point to any evidence to support this, but I will go over the play again and try to explain my view clearly.
