I have really enjoyed this and wished I could have been better at it. I take Cheryl as my model for group reads, but I have not quite measured up. Nevertheless, I had fun.
You all, however, have been delightful. I've learned a lot from each of you. And particularly from Julie. She was a rock. This particular group read would have been much the poorer without her kindness and willingness to share her knowledge. Thanks, sweetie.
In looking back of the discussion, I think that, in many ways, it has informed the way we look at some of Jane Austen's characters. I can picture Lydia Wickham going to a trial in Newcastle for entertainment and Mrs. Phillips obsessing over the purchase of her dining table. I can see that poor Fanny Price was not alone in her despair over home dramatics and imagine that the oversight of a home like Pemberley must have entailed for Elizabeth Bennet. I understand how life with three servants was the very edge of gentility and I think of both the Dashwoods and Jane Austen.
And much more. Thanks to you all. I hope we can do something like this again.
