On p.267, AV says that young girls came out at age 15 or 16, and sometimes even as young as 13. However, in P&P2, Elizabeth admits to Lady Catherine that Lydia at 15 is "full young" to be out much in society, and Lydia's youth is partly blamed for her elopement. Is the difference due to different time periods, since AV covers a time span starting in the 1730s?
