GR: women's diversions   Written by Zoe (11/11/2003 8:16 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR:Chap.7-On Pleasure bent again?, penned by Tara O'Donnell
Are you new?

I was interested by the fact that so many of the public entertainments that Vickery describes were more popular with women than men. It surprised me because it seems as though women would have less free time and less opportunity to get away from the house than men would. I know men had their business to attend to as well, and hunting as a pastime, but still, it seemed like they would have been better represented out and about, that women's and men's attendance at many such events and arenas would have been closer to equal.
