GR: Shopping   Written by Mrs. Golda Allen (11/10/2003 10:56 a.m.)
Are you new?

My posting theme for this group read has been to show how similar life is between Georgian times and today. On p.250 of my hardcover copy, the discussion turns to shopping in London. "where the choicest merchandise from the four quarters of the globe is exposed to the site of passers-by. A stranger might spend whole days, (anyone we know? LOL) without ever feeling bored, examining these wonderful goods."

The text also mentions that London shops were often open until ten at night, although they were busiest in the afternoons. I knew about the choice merchandise in London but to learn about late shop hours is a surprise.
