... in employer/employee relations: After all that eye-opening information in the previous chapter about how hard it was for employers to either keep or trust servants, and how less-than-happy servants seemed to be with their jobs, I was especially struck by the comment on p.184:

Elizabeth found that witholding a servant's belongings could be a useful tactic in delaying their departure.

When persuasion doesn't work, try a little blackmail!
