GR: Chapter 4 Hair rings and other things   Written by Deborah Julia (11/2/2003 10:45 a.m.)
Are you new?

Reading how Tom and Betty Parker exchanged hair rings as love tokens during their courtship (Page 188), I was reminded of the hair ring Edward wore in S&S and the conclusions Marianne jumped to.

Also on page 188, Mrs Shackleton had a ring incorporating her dead mother's hair and was "making extensive enquiries, five years before she died, for a craftsman 'Who co'd do me an extreme neat Landscape in [my own] hair for my new braclet'" Mrs S.also had a braclet made from her three sons' hair.

I was aware of hair rings not only from reading S&S but also a recent thread on L&T board(there was a link to photos of hair rings), I didn't know other items of jewelery incorporated human hair.

I'm a bit squeamish at the thought of wearing jewelery made from or incorporating hair but I can understand the sentimental value of such things.
