] One thing that really made an impression in this chapter was how all-consuming motherhood was at that time.

On the practical side of motherhood, I think it still has its difficulties nowadays, but imagine the inconveniences in JA's time! Even with nurses, nannies, governesses, etc. raising a child with sketchy sanitation standards and healthcare must have been mind and/ time-consuming. Also, the lack of disposable diapers, wipes, washing machines...=p
