GR--average age   Written by Diane Fitz (10/20/2003 2:00 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: Average age of the Georgian bride was near twenty-five, penned by KerstinM
Are you new?

I remember reading many years ago that the average age for marriage in the 19th Century was much higher than we think -- somewhere around 25 for women and 27 for men. The reason I read then was that people did not marry until they could afford to (unless they had to), and that this meant it could be many years before doing so. For women, this often meant years in service, while the men often had to go off to seek their fortune.
