Even Mrs. Norris   Written by Golda (10/19/2003 11:14 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, GR: charitable works, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

Even that #@*&$ Mrs. Norris scolds Fanny in Chapter 7 of Mansfield Park, telling her that if she has no work of her, there was work to do in the poor basket. She mentions calico. I don't know specifically what this means, but I presume that they made simple clothing for the poor. As much as I hate Mrs. Norris, she is an example of usefulness when contrasted with her sister Lady Bertram.
