Am I understanding correctly, that one could purchase the right to use a family crest if you paid enough money to the Heralds' Office? Was this fairly common? Swithin decided not to spend the money, but he was able to utilize some of the features of the Forsite crest with no problem (i.e., without trademark infringement, if it's a similar concept)? I'm obviously a little confused on what's going on here!
