I had exactly the same question Written by Elsie (9/28/2004 4:10 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Aunt Ann's Funeral, penned by Anne Charlotte

why is it that the women didn't attend the funeral?

I also thought this was a very moving chapter in the book. Especially James captured my heart here. As for Soames, once again he doesn't manage to get into my good books.
