On that theme....   Written by Deborah d'Bajor (9/27/2004 9:14 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Irene's courtship, penned by LaurieC
Are you new?

anyone else keep thinking of Fanny and Henry Crawford?

I'm curious to know what the status of a divorced woman might be - I presume it's a divorce rather than just a separation she wants and he was prepared to offer? How socially acceptable would such a woman be, and how would she support herself? Would an ex-husband be likely to give an allowance?

I find Soames always viewing Irene as his *Property* a bit creepy to be honest. His *love* for her seems very cold-blooded.
