I was a little puzzled by this remark and wondered if it just referred to Soames' role as executor of Ann's estate?

ch. 9 - George, the remaining son, arrived almost immediately afterwards in a hansom, and paused in the hall to ask Soames how he found undertaking pay.
They disliked each other.
