Modernism   Written by Myretta (9/23/2004 12:16 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I dont think that he liked modern art..., penned by Karolina
Are you new?

I did not mean to imply that that I thought Soames was collecting 20th century art in the 19th century.

The fact that he chose Bosinney to build a very modern house, leads me to believe that he has an interest in art that was modern for that particular time. This is one of the reasons I mentioned Whistler. It never occurred to me that he would be so avant garde as to collect post-impressionists in the 1880s.

But, I still contend that he was collecting painting that was modern for its time rather than the sentimental painting that was rampant during this time.
