of old Joyon to take the first step back to his son. And to tell him so honoustly that he was feeling lonely.

As I am reading on in the novel I am really getting very fond of the old man. (no I will not tell any spoilers)
Why do you suppose young Jolyons' wife cried? Was it because she was angry the old man had come, or was it because he hadn't come sooner. Was she happy he wanted to make up or quite the contrary? I didn't get this, but thought she wasn't to pleased about his coming.
