Leaving familiar territory   Written by Myretta (9/21/2004 9:29 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Country House, penned by BeccaSP
Are you new?

What follows is simply an opinion:

Althouth the Forsytes long to move up into another level of society, they feel safer pursuing this when surrounded by other Forsytes. Moving out of London, out of easy reach of the London coccoon, leaves them exposed. In Robin Hill, Soames can more easily be accused of striving to be above himself, particularly if he is living in a house that calls attention to itself.

It's a threat to the status quo.
