GR-Isolation in a crowd   Written by Tara O'Donnell (9/19/2004 8:45 a.m.)
Are you new?

The main impression I got from the first several chapters is how alone the Forsytes are, even amongst themselves. Old Jolyon running into his cast-off son(accidently on purpose)just to have conversation with someone,Soames wanting Irene to be more connected to him(really don't like him-anyone who wants to own his wife, body & soul,is just too controlling and creepy to me)and Irene, who seems like a prisoner of her marriage.

The only time we've seen some warmth of feeling from her is when she defends Bonsinny to her father-in-law. Looks like the two outsiders may be teaming up in more ways than one-talk about"I can not get out,as the starling said"!
