LOL! I agree, Frank is very skillful, and at this incident shows him to be a man of the world, and shows Emma to be somewhat gullible provincial girl. Franks ready answers actually does not point to a man in love, but a man who might enjoy acting on the behalf of a friend.

A lot of people have commented that Emma is not likable because she thinks she knows best and tries to manipulate others, but this shows Emma's naivete and how easily she is played by Frank. Ultimately, Emma does most harm to herself by her blunders.
