Well, I donīt think he felt the same when Emma was 13   Written by MarianneR (5/8/2008 4:47 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I'm not sure he's serious about that, penned by Laraine
Are you new?

but I could imagine that he was already very fond of her. In German we have two differnt words for "falling in love" (verlieben) and "loving" (lieben) which I think indicates that these two stages of love are different. When Emma was 13 I think he was just crazy for her whereas now his love is a mature one. In ch.49 he assures her that he had been in love with Emma, and jealous of Frank Churchill, from about the same period, one sentiment having probably enlightened him as to the other. At this point I would say his state of "being fallen in love" had developed into a deeper stage.

I hope I could make myself clear - reading English is one thing, expressing oneīs thoughts another... ;-)
