There is certainly much more to say in praise of Mr. Knightley - but this time (which is my second reading of Emma) it struck me as if I never read it before:
"I could not think about you so much without doating on you, faults and all; and by dint of fancying so many errors, have been in love with you ever since you were thirteen at least."(ch.53)
It is unbelievable that Mr. Knightley waited for Emma until she was an adult (in ch.1 we read that by now she is 21)! His jealousy towards Frank must have been much deeper than he showed considering that after eight years of hoping he had nearly arrived at the fulfillment of his dreams... Wow, what a gentleman!
