Yes, the lime trees are not the citrus variety.....

Here is an old lime avenue as it still stands in Norfolk. And is an early 18th century engraving of Strudington Manor showing the type of old fashioned garden,very formal, including lime avenues, that was still in evidence at Donwell,and which time and fashion hadn't removed ;-)
Citrus lime trees were not hardy in harsh English winters: if they existed at all on an estate, then they would be found in a hot house or a conservatory/orangery ;-) |
