I was a bit puzzled by the word, too, but a glance into my dictionary told me that there are two different meanings:

- the tree with green, lemon-like fruits (the one you probably referred to)
- a tree with smooth leaves shaped like hearts and sweetsmelling yellow flowers, also called "linden-tree" (which I think is the tree JA referred to)
