I once was "assaulted" by a noisy group of gypsies...   Written by Mary-L (5/1/2008 11:56 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, How real was a Gypsy threat?, penned by Dorothy A
Are you new?

...years ago, at an airport in Milan, while my husband was off getting our rental car, and I was staying with the luggage. I was suddenly surrounded by a very clamorous group of 2-3 women carrying tiny babies, and about 6 noisy small children. The women were stretching out their hands demandingly and shouting at me, and one of the little boys strangely propped a cardboard under my chin. I wasn't frightened but was quite confused. Then a man, running a newstand nearby, came running over shouting at them, shooing them away. I then discovered that the small child, under the cardboard, had managed to unzip my shoulder bag and was well on his way to finding my wallet when the man intervened.

So there was a threat that I hadn't been aware of, with their well-staged confusing and noisy confrontation. I can well imagine that Harriet was quite frightened by the gypsies' demands.
