Names in Emma   Written by MarianneR (5/1/2008 8:15 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Suckling, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

It never occured to me that some of the names in Emma might have a special meaning. During our group-read I learned that

-Donwell might stand for done well
-Suckling might stand for sucking

and now I am wondering whether

-Knightley might stand for knightly (at least at the ball he acts in a knightly manner towards Harriet)

Are there more similarieties?
