Bates vs Woodhouse hospitality   Written by Janey (4/30/2008 5:43 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Hospitality - Bates vs Mr Woodhouse., penned by Rachel G
Are you new?

Yes, the hospitality Mr Woodhouse offers is different...or maybe it's not really hospitality.

Mr. Woodhouse was fond of society in HIS OWN WAY. He liked very much to have his friends come and see HIM... chap 3
On the other hand, the Bates are so very glad to see the VISITORS.

Food and hospitality seem to go together. :)

Mr Woodhouse offers food, a very little food. He first appears stingy, then controlling and finally critical to me. He implies "you are wrong" to others. (Others might take the WRONG amount of food or go to the WRONG seaside resort)
On the other hand, such issues are not brought up in the Bates residence and surely it must be rude to notice or mention such things. Miss Bates will talk your ear off but she won't insult you in every sentence by implying you are WRONG in your taste, your judgment and you have NO common sense. However, earplugs may be required. ;D
