Mrs.Elton is referring   Written by Ramya (4/27/2008 10:35 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Intriguing information, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

to the days after she had accepted his proposal, when Mr.Elton went back to Bath to arrange matters and get married. The fact that she is talking about the marriage ceremony and fitting up a new carriage points to the fact that she has already 'caught' her caro sposo.

The wedding was no distant event, as the parties had only themselves to please, and nothing but the necessary preparations to wait for; and when he set out for Bath again, there was a general expectation, which a certain glance of Mrs. Cole's did not seem to contradict, that when he next entered Highbury he would bring his bride. Chap 22

I don't think she needs to be lying here. Wedding preparations do take time, even if the bride and groom were ready. I can easily believe that Mr.Elton wanted to get married as soon as possible and bring back to Highbury his fantastic bride. ;P
