I think Jane has spent some time with Mr. Knightley   Written by Joan Ellen (4/22/2008 8:40 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Jane Fairfax quarrels with her aunt, penned by Ramya
Are you new?

In ch. 21, for example, they apparently walk back to Highbury together from Hartfield, though the walk itself is not in the book:

"I shall just go round by Mrs. Cole's; but I shall not stop three minutes: and, Jane, you had better go home directly... Oh! Mr. Knightley is coming too. Well, that is so very! I am sure if Jane is tired, you will be so kind as to give her your arm..."

Perhaps his manner toward her on such occasions has convinced her that he's not interested in her romantically.
