Quite a Riddle   Written by Tarn (4/22/2008 4:10 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Jane Fairfax quarrels with her aunt, penned by Ramya
Are you new?

Mr Knightley is very well disposed towards the Bates' and towards Jane Fairfax particularly. While he says Miss Fairfax "would not have me if I were to ask her; and I am very sure I shall never ask her.", Miss Fairfax has not shared her feelings with anyone. Maybe if she opened up a little - Mr Knightley certainly seems to have studied Jane Fairfax's feelings more closely than anyone else in Highbury.

And with the Coles and the Westons promoting the match, and Emma opposing it...who would triumph?

Did you notice this is the second time that interesting juxtaposition "No, Emma" occurs? (the first time was in chapter 18)
