This is what keeps coming to my mind during this read (listen). She is an intelligent woman, she does have people skills and there are sides to her that are very endearing. But over and over again, as you say, she gets caught up in these situations of her own making. Contrast her with Mr Knightley, also very aware of the nuances of social gradations, but using them positively.
