in consequence of the missive, I was shocked..., penned by Rae
Frank's cattiness (what other word can be used) regarding Jane's person & some of her business should put Emma on her guard. What will he say about her behind her back? In addition, his willingness to be led by & feed Emma's scandalous opinions regarding the origin of the piano are unkind to both women. Emma is blinded by her supposed regard for herself in the only young person who is her socioeconomic equal (so important to her)thatshe fails to see that some of his conversation is unkind--but why, after disparaging Miss Fairfax's hair does he seek a chair by her?
