underestimating people. You make a nice defense of Emma's good points.

I think a lot of people in the novel fall into the mistake of judging people based on narrow critera. Examples are: Emma about the Martins, Mr.Knightley about Frank Churchill and Harriet, Mr.Woodhouse about Mr.Wingfield and wedding cake ;), and so on.

It will be interesting to watch for these things as the novel progresses.
