Is Emma an hypocrite? Written by Graciela (4/18/2008 1:21 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Hearing about the wonders of Jane, penned by Joan Ellen

"I was afraid there could be little chance of my hearing any thing of Miss Fairfax to-day."

Or is she just being ironic? Saying that she was happy than Mrs. and Miss Bates had news from Jane and that she hoped that Jane was well is only politeness; but saying that she was afraid that she could not hear about Miss Fairfax, when she really *didn't want* to hear about her, is pure hypocrisy.
