Perhaps Emma should have left Jane Fairfax   Written by Ramya (4/17/2008 5:31 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Is Emma being fair to Jane Fairfax?, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

alone then, knowing she was a reserved person. But instead, poor Emma tries to make conversation in her usual way (Emma does like news and gossip in general), and she is completely rebuffed by Miss Fairfax.

I never said Emma was being fair to Jane in all respects -I don't see where you get that from my post ;). However, I do think it was natural, her going back to her original dislike of Jane after that encounter.

I don't know if Emma has never done anything to deserve Jane’s reserve (I don't discount that possiblility in my previous post either), but to hold that against Emma after two years of four years, is not very generous of Jane, either, if that is indeed the reason for her reserve. However, since there is no proof of any such offence caused, we can do no more than speculate on that.

And we don't know if Emma's suspicions are baseless. After all, according to the ON, there might be some truths not told by Jane.
