One wonders what truths would Jane Fairfax be holding back, that one little part of a sentence could certainly be the key to something else.

Perhaps she was smitten with Mr. Dixon and felt she could no longer hide it and in turn didn't want to go to Ireland or perhaps it could be as simple as she didn't want to be a third wheel ;) Or did the perfect Jane Fairfax behave in a way that made it necessary for her to leave their company and no one speaks of it because they have always held her in such high regard...so many things to ponder from one tiny little sub clause!
