...it's probably more of an issue that Mrs. Churchill doesn't want him to pay respects to his father's new bride. I imagine that the Churchills aren't the warmest of people and might not have even liked Mr. Weston, but wanted to raise his son as a courtsey to the former Mrs. Weston's memory (and the fact that they had no heir).
