This puzzles me a little   Written by Tarn (4/16/2008 1:58 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Another LOL-moment..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

I had supposed that there was an inn with post horses, and that there was a post office, within sight of the butchers on the main street of Highbury. As this poignant operation is taking place within a half-hours gad of Mrs Goddard's, I would expect it to be also an easy distance from the post office, the inn, and the butchers, with the Vickerage and the church not much further. So why take the trouble of loading the trunk onto the cart, for such a short trip?

Does this mean that Highbury is off the main road from Kingston to Richmond, that the mail and the regular coach services do not pass through it? I had thought it was somewhere in the bend of the Thames between the Kingston road and the Richmond road, possibly on the north bank of the river.
If this was the case, would it mean that the post office is not in the centre of town, but a little further out, closer to the main road?
