This rather bears out the prediction Emma made in ch18: that Frank would adapt his conversation to the taste of every body. It just turns out that drawing and music aren't her only pet topics. Some relief from the general tide of Jane-praising serves just as well, and her opening question "And how did you think Miss Fairfax looking?" gives him a clue. I doubt that Frank disparages Jane to anyone else. The man's schmoozing.
