Ungallant Frank   Written by nan duval (4/15/2008 8:00 a.m.)
Are you new?

I find it curious that while Frank is in a rage to love and be loved by Highbury in almost all of its minutest details, that almost the only comments he makes about Jane Fairfax to Emma's questions, are insulting. He doesn't like her complexion or her reserve. He did like her musicianship very much (I bet Emma loves that) but he professes to know so little of the matter as not to be a good judge. I'm surprised that Emma's quickness fails to grasp his willingness to disparage someone behind her back. If someone talks of Jane Fairfax like that, then what might he do behind Emma's back--probably not in Highbury where he's living among those who love her but perhaps at Enscombe or in London.
