I agree we can learn as much from discussion of Emma’s faults as we can from discussion of her virtues. I also think you make a great point that Emma is not calling on the Bates with any good-will and is actually using them so she does not have to listen to Harriet’s distress over Mr. Elton. I agree Emma has many good qualities but this particular section of the novel reflects very poorly on her. Thanks! (;D)
