Col. Campbell's money   Written by Laraine (4/14/2008 2:45 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Jane and the Campbells, penned by Anne-Marie
Are you new?

The main thing to remember about the Campbells support of Jane is that the money is going to run out when the Colonel dies. We are told that "... though his income, by pay and appointments, was handsome, his fortune was moderate and must be all his daughter's". What that means is that the family lives on what he earns and there cannot be enough economy to provide even a modest fortune for Jane.

The other problematic piece of their support is that if Jane waits until the Colonel dies to become a governess, it would likely be harder for her to get an excellent position then than it would be in her early twenties.
