I think Emma is never short on material attention to the Bates. The "pork"-incident highlights the fact that she is more generous than her father in that respect.

I agree that it is in number of visits to the Bates' that she falls short. And while I don't commend her on that, I think she is on the whole not a hopeless case, and will learn to be more patient towards other tiresome people (she already is very patient with her father) as she grows older.
