Emma, on the other hand, truly believes she is acting for her friend's happiness. She does care for Harriet, but her blindness prevents her from seeing that persuading Harriet into liking Mr Elton/out of accepting Mr Martin is not the best course. Even though she is wrong, her motives are right, and as you say, she does not realise how much her own wishes influence her judgement. She even expresses concern for causing Mr Martin disappointment, which seems to me to be genuine.
