I am a bit confused   Written by MarianneR (4/11/2008 6:56 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Chapter 14, penned by Nicki
Are you new?

after reading your quotations. I always thought that Emma had made up her mind to like Mr. Frank Churchill. These are the passages of ch.14 I base my opinion on:

"Now, it so happened that in spite of Emma's resolution of never marrying, there was something in the name, in the idea of Mr. Frank Churchill, which always interested her. She had frequently thought...that if she were to marry, he was the very person to suit her in age, character and condition. He seemed by this connection between the families, quite to belong to her. She could not but suppose it to be a match that every body who knew them must think of."

"she had a great curiosity to see him, a decided intention of finding him pleasant"

This is why I thought that the arguments she delivers during the discussion with Mr.K were her own. I thought it would also fit to her character that she made up her mind about a person before knowing him/her (like she did with Mr. Martin...).

Now I am a bit helpless as your quotations seem to indicate quite the opposite - but well, couldnīt it be that she changed her mind afer thinking about her best friend Mrs. Westonīs arguments?
