Emma isn't thinking ahead here. Ironically, by being in such a hurry to marry Harriet off to Mr. Elton, she is setting herself up to be left alone with her father again, just as she was when Miss Taylor married. Not very smart.

[Unless... yikes! You don't suppose she's planning to go through all the pupils at Miss Goddard's school one by one until she's married them all off? ;-D ]
