not wanting to relinquish that role and that sense of self, Emma does not go to town. I suspect in town she would only be one of many other 'fish' of her size, and small compared to some others! Highbury best suits her, I'm sure; it assures Emma's role as 'Queen'. London society might slightly de-throne her! She may, in fact, have some insecurities about moving in those larger circles. I think this may be part of her relationship with Jane Fairfax...but I won't get ahead of things!!
