Are you new?

and self deceptive is not quite right either. I do think Emma bends the truth to get her own way, but not in a malicious way. I do think that she really believes in the fact the Mr. Elton is a better match and will go all out to bring the match about. I also think, because of her limited society, E believes that the Martins are of a lesser desirability - but does she lie consciously? I don't think so.
