Poor Mr. Martin!   Written by MarianneR (4/4/2008 3:35 a.m.)
Are you new?

I regret that nobody mentioned it before - so I will make a start although itīs difficult for me to express my thoughts in English.

I am reading "Emma" for the second time and itīs only now that I begin to understand what a respectable and kind-hearted man Mr. Martin is. As Mr. Knightley mentioned Harriet couldnīt get a better husband. Therefore it fills me with anger how Emma can talk so condescendingly about him after just seeing him once and reading a letter that she had to admit was quite gentleman-like! And that she urges Harriet to refuse his proposal is the height of impertinence!! I feel very sorry for him and by reading on I will watch him specifically! I want to know how he reacts towards Harriet as the story goes on...
I hope I wasnīt too emotional - but I just thought I had to put in a good word for him!
